You Need To Know
Based on our research involving over 200 actual owners of the
Sleepwarmer / Westpoint Home / Martex electric blanket, only 30% of them reported being satisfied with the product.
Owners of the blanket often have a love / hate relationship
with it. They tend to appreciate its softness, appearance and
unobtrusive heating wires. They tend, however, to be unsatisfied
with the reliability / durability of the product, and this is
the main reason for the low overall satisfaction.

The research findings are based on at least 228 reviews / comments
of actual Sleepwarmer / Westpoint Home / Martex electric blanket
owners collected
from diverse sources, including owner reviews on retailer websites, online message boards and product review websites.
Research Findings
Material
At least 25% of owners said that they liked (often loved) the
softness of the blanket which is made with plush microfiber.
This percentage is significantly higher than any other blanket
included in our research. In fact, nearly 5% of owners said
that the material allows them to enjoy the blanket even when
not turned on (or not working). The appearance of the material
was also a positive in that nearly 10% of owners found the blanket
attractive. The material did not have a significant problem
with pilling or shedding, although there were a few reported
cases. (Pilling occurs when lose ends ball up on the fabric's
surface.)
Heating Elements
Only one person out of the hundreds included in our research
complained about being able to feel the heating wires in the
blanket; about 10% of owners praised the blanket for having
unobtrusive wires that could hardly be noticed.
Heating Effectiveness
Owners were generally pleased with how quickly the electric
blanket would warm, but they were split in regard to whether
it generated enough heat. Owners who liked to get strong heat
from their blanket or those who slept in a cold room were sometimes
dissatisfied with the warmth.
Durability / Reliability
The main reason there is only 30% satisfaction with this product
has to do with its durability and / or reliability. The clear
majority of owners included in our research said that their
blanket was, within months after purchase, defective or at least
frustrating to effectively use. Most complaints centered around
getting the controller and therefore the blanket itself to work
right. The blanket material, however, was generally considered
to be high quality and durable, able to stand up to repeated
washing and drying.
