Glossary
The Sound Oasis provides 18 recorded sounds: Ocean Surf, North Woods, Thunderstorm, White Noise, Night Train, Spring Rain, Island Surf, Bonfire, Stream, Hidden Cove, Wind, Asian Garden, Song Birds, Harbor Swell, Bamboo Chimes, Summer Night, Cooling Fan and Rain Forest.
The sounds are effective in masking unwanted noise of low to moderate volume. However, because the Sound Oasis itself generates only moderate volume, it is not especially effective in masking loud noise.
The speaker provides generally acceptable sound quality. And while at least some people will be able to notice when the recorded loops start to replay, they are reasonably long which minimizes distraction and annoyance. The sounds operate on a timer with four positions: continuous, 30 min., 60 min. and 90 min. The sound slowly reduces in volume when it goes off. The machine also has a headphone jack.
The Sound Oasis is arguably the most travel-friendly sound machine available currently. It can run on four AA batteries, which should be expected to last about 50 hours before needing replacement. Should you want to plug the unit in, several wall adapters are included for various parts of the world. The product is small in size (5.4 x 1.5 x 3 inches) and weighs less than a pound.
The product also has a clock and alarm which are adequate. They feature dual time (home & away) backlighting (which may be a bit too bright) & calendar with buzzer or sound alarm.
